Jamaal Dickerson Launches 6th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to Support Colonial Beach Schools and Students

Colonial Beach, VA – June 2025 – As students prepare to head back to school in the fall, one local community leader is stepping up once again to ensure that no child in Colonial Beach starts the school year without the essential tools for success. Jamaal Dickerson, a well-known realtor and community advocate, has officially launched the 6th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive—a growing tradition in the Colonial Beach community that has helped hundreds of students over the years.

Running from June 1 through August 4, this year’s campaign is expected to be the biggest yet. With the slogan “Fill the Bus, Fuel the Future,” the drive focuses on collecting notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, folders, lunch boxes, and other classroom essentials for students of all ages. All donated items will directly support students in Colonial Beach schools.

“Back-to-school time should be filled with excitement, not anxiety about whether a child will have what they need,” says Dickerson. “This supply drive is my way of giving back to the town that helped raise me, and making sure the kids coming up now in Colonial Beach have every chance to succeed.”

A Mission Rooted in the Colonial Beach Community

Born and raised in Colonial Beach, Jamaal Dickerson is not only a successful realtor but also a basketball coach, father, and mentor. His passion for empowering young people in Colonial Beach schools stems from his own upbringing and the support he received from his community.

“I’ve had full custody of my daughter since she was four years old, and I know firsthand how important it is for children to feel supported and set up for success,” says Dickerson. “That’s what this drive is all about.”

In previous years, the drive has supplied hundreds of grade-appropriate supplies to students throughout the county. From single parents struggling to afford school shopping to teachers in Colonial Beach schools who often buy supplies out of pocket, the impact of the drive reaches far and wide.

Why It Matters

According to national statistics, families can spend over $100 per child just on basic school supplies. In a town like Colonial Beach, where many families are working hard to make ends meet, that amount can become a serious burden. With the help of local donors, this campaign aims to bridge that gap.

“Every pencil, every notebook—it all adds up,” says one past recipient and local teacher from. “I’ve seen students walk into the first day of class with nothing in their hands. This drive helps restore dignity and self-confidence.”

Community Involvement

The campaign encourages participation from all corners of the Colonial Beach community. Local businesses can host mini-drives, restaurants can offer discounts in exchange for supply donations, and churches or civic organizations can run donation challenges.

Dickerson is also inviting former students, teachers, and alumni of Colonial Beach schools to post testimonials or stories on social media using the hashtag #FillTheBusCBVA, showing the long-term impact of community support and investing in education.

Stronger Together

What started as a small community gesture has now evolved into one of Colonial Beach’s most impactful back-to-school initiatives. With your help, the 2025 Back-to-School Supply Drive can break records and provide more support than ever before.
